FRONTON VINEYARDS, IN THE HEART OF THE SOUTHWEST
2000 years of history! In Gallo-Roman times, Fronton was located on the road between Toulouse and Cahors. It is said that vines were first planted here at this time.
Throughout its history, Fronton has played host to many famous figures: Pope Calixte, Louis XIII, the writer Jules Ielh, Marguerite Audoux , André Gide and Alain Fournier, and the Occitan poet Théodore Calbet,
A grape variety with a unique identity
The vineyard has a special feature: the Négrette, a native grape variety with a unique identity that is not found in any other appellation. Acknowledged by wine professionals nationwide, the typicality of the Négrette grape variety has won it over even beyond France, notably in Canada, Japan and the United States, where wines from the Sud-Ouest have recently been singled out by Wine Enthusiast magazine.
Located just 30 km from Toulouse and 20 km from Montauban, the Fronton PDO vineyard covers 2,400 hectares. Part of the Haute-Garonne département and part of the Tarn-et-Garonne département, it is part ofOccitanie, the world’s largest wine-growing region.
A vineyard with many assets!
Fronton PDO benefits from multiple access points, such as Toulouse-Blagnac international airport and a nearby motorway network.
In addition to the influences and dynamics induced by the cities of Toulouse and Montauban, the Fronton vineyards offer activities labelled Vignobles & Découvertes and opportunities for cultural and nature tourism.
